Borro keeps a record of who owes what. It runs on your device, and cloud backup is optional. There is no advertising.
Borro is a notebook, not a contract. It does not lend money, hold money, move money or collect debts, and an entry in it is not a legally enforceable agreement. Disagreements between you and someone else are between the two of you.
All payments are taken by Apple or Google, renew until you cancel in the store, and are refunded by the store rather than by us.
The agreement
These Terms are an agreement between you and AroraLabs, based in Australia, covering the Borro app and borro.aroralabs.org (the Service). By installing or using it you accept them. How we handle your data is in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
What Borro is (and is not)
Borro records money and items lent between people, and can share an entry with the other person so they can confirm it.
Accounts & eligibility
You must be at least 13, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live — if you are under 18, only with a parent or guardian's agreement. An account is only needed for cloud backup, sync and sharing. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you control. You may not resell it, reverse-engineer it, or work around its limits, security or licensing.
Your ledger & the people in it
We claim no ownership of your entries, notes, receipts or photos. Where you use the cloud features, you grant us only the narrow licence needed to run them: to store, transmit, back up and display your ledger to you and your own devices, and to deliver a shared or settled entry to the person you chose. It ends when you delete the data or your account, and gives us no right to use it for advertising, profiling, resale or training machine-learning models.
An entry you shared stays in the other person's copy after you delete yours, the same way a message stays in the recipient's inbox.
Keep your own copy. Without cloud backup your ledger exists on the device and nowhere else, and if you lose or reset it we cannot recover the data.
Free & Pro
The free plan is permanent, not a trial, and carries no advertising. Its limits — including how many devices you can use — are shown in the app.
Borro Pro is a subscription that lifts those limits and adds the cloud features. It renews until you cancel and may start with a free trial; its length and the price afterwards are shown before you confirm. Prices and plan names are confirmed by the store at the moment of purchase and may change over time. We will not remove a materially significant feature from a plan you have already paid for without offering a reasonable remedy.
Payments & refunds
- Apple and Google take every payment. We never see your card details.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, at the price shown when you bought.
- Cancel in your store account settings — only the store can cancel a subscription. You keep the features until the period you have paid for ends.
- Refunds are handled by the store, under its policy, not by us. We will help where we can.
- If a subscription lapses, the cloud features switch off. Your ledger on the device is untouched, and existing cloud data stays readable so you can retrieve it.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use Borro to:
- harass, threaten, shame or intimidate anyone, or to pressure someone over a debt;
- record another person's details without being entitled to, or to run a commercial lending or debt-collection operation;
- store or send material that is unlawful where you are, or that infringes someone's intellectual property or privacy;
- get around the limits of your plan, or any security or licensing measure, including by using a modified build;
- access or try to access another person's account or data;
- place unreasonable load on our infrastructure, or resell the Service.
We do not monitor your ledger, and without the cloud features we cannot. Where we become aware of a serious breach we may act under section 8.
Availability & termination
The app works offline. The cloud features depend on infrastructure we operate and are provided on an as available basis; they may be briefly unavailable for maintenance, and we may set reasonable fair-use limits.
If we permanently discontinue a cloud feature we will give reasonable notice, keep export available, and stop charging for it — refunding or pro-rating any period you have paid for but cannot use, so far as the store's mechanisms allow.
You can stop using Borro at any time and delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaches these Terms, or where we must by law.
Disclaimers & liability
The Service is provided as is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not responsible for the accuracy of what you or anyone else enters into a ledger.
We are not responsible for any debt, dispute or falling-out between you and another person, for money you do or do not get back, or for data you did not export. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
The stores
Your use of the app is also subject to the terms of the store you got it from. For apps obtained through Apple, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies in addition to these Terms, and:
- this agreement is between you and AroraLabs, not Apple;
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app;
- Apple is not responsible for any product warranties, or for addressing any claim relating to the app — including product liability, legal compliance and intellectual property;
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
Equivalent principles apply to apps obtained through Google Play.
Governing law, changes & contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection laws where you live.
We may update these Terms — for a material change we will give notice in the app or by email before it takes effect, and the date at the top of this page always shows the current version.
